Kabab & Curry Restaurant

By Max Lent 3/05 updated 9/06

5185 Transit Road, Williamsville, NY 14221.  Located on Route 78 south of Rte. 37 and north of Rte. 324.   Map from MSMaps.  716-565-3822.

"Kabab & Curry Restaurant's mission is to provide the finest quality South Asian dishes to our guests with an emphasis on Indian and Pakistani cuisines. In addition to providing fine quality dishes, we have a dedication to the highest quality of customer service, delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride and company spirit."

On any trip to the Buffalo, New York region I am drawn to the Kabab & Curry Restaurant in nearby Williamsville.  Sometimes, I plan trips to the region so that I will still be in the area around dinner time.

If, after looking at their menu, you perceive Kabab & Curry as just another Indian restaurant.  Think again.  Their food only remotely resembles standard Indian restaurant cooking.  Here the spices are more complex and more sophisticated.  For example, their lamb palak contains an elegant sophisticated blend of herbs and spices that sets it apart in wonderfully aromatic ways from palaks you may have had at Indian restaurants.

What makes the trip to Kabab & Curry worthwhile, according to my wife, is their dosas.  They look like 24 inch in diameter light tan crisp crepes on which a mixture such as cooked seasoned potatoes are placed.  The dosa is then folded and served on a plate.  The presentation is beautiful at Kabab and Curry.  Over the couple of years that I have been eating at Kabab & Curry I have tried to sample as many items on the menu as possible.  I have yet to be disappointed.

Kabab & Curry's food tends toward authentic spiciness, be cautious the first time you order, ask for mild or medium.

I once asked about the menu and where the owners were from.  I was told that they are from Pakistan, not India.  That may explain the subtle ways their food is different from Indian cooking.

The restaurant is hard to find because it is located in a strip mall.  However, once you enter, you are in a different world.  The decor is muted and subtle except for the large photo mural on the front wall.

The service quality varies, but it is always courteous and helpful.  Management does and excellent job training the wait staff.

Kabab & Curry has entertainment on Friday nights.  We had the opportunity to experience the musical entertainment on a recent Friday night visit.  The musicians played drums, guitar, and something that looked like a dulcimer.  The music perfectly accompanied the meal and was never played loud enough to overpower dinner conversation.

We have made several return visits to Kabab and Curry since our 0/5 review and have found the food and service consistently excellent.

Dinner at Kabab & Curry is elegant, relatively inexpensive, exotic, and a good value.  Your taste buds will smile.
