High Commission, UK. Tourism information.
"Freetown's giant cotton tree, national symbol of
Sierra Leone and a landmark in the capital, is also a sign of
hope as peace and stability returns to the country.
The peaceful and orderly presidential and
parliamentary election in 2002 set an example to the whole
of Africa - and President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah with over 70%
of the vote has a rock solid mandate to rebuild the
country and head towards prosperity. Life in Sierra
Leone is getting back to normal as the people and
Government pull together to repair, renew and regenerate.
We have taken the journey through Freetown and to the
north and the south of the country on this website to
picture and record the road to recovery.
Successful projects and developments are steering life
back to prosperity. There are new hotels, road
improvements, the airport has been modernized, there are
good prospects for both the mining and fishing industries,
the financial sector is expanding, houses and schools are
being rebuilt."
