National Tourism Organization of Serbia. "Serbia
and Montenegro, the two remaining republics of SFR
Yugoslavia formed, in 1992, the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia.
In March of 1999 NATO launched a 78 day air strike
attack on Serbia which was finally stopped when
president Milosevic agreed to remove all of his security
forces including the military and the police. Since then
Kosovo is under the interim civil and military
administration of the UN.
On October 5th 2000, Slobodan Milosevic was overthrown
by losing to candidate of the Democratic opposition of
Serbia Vojislav Kostunica. Following parliamentary
elections in January 2001, Zoran Đinđić became Prime
Minister. He was assassinated in Belgrade on March 12,
2003.
In February 2003 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was
transformed into the State Union of Serbia and
Montenegro.
Montenegro voted for its independence on May 21st 2006
and was declared an independent state on June 3rd 2006.
Serbia declared its independence on June 5th 2006
becoming an independent state, under its own name, for
the first time since 1918."
