Government

  • Norway.  Odin.  Information from the government and ministries.
  • Royal Norwegian Embassy.  "Norway established its first embassy in Washington, D.C., in 1906 - just one year after our country regained its independence. Strong historical ties link Norway and the United States. Between 1825 and 1940, more than one-third of Norway's population emigrated to America. Allies ever since, the two nations fought together in World War II and were co-founders of both the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Today, the Embassy in Washington is Norway's largest, with a staff of 45, including representatives from a number of Norwegian ministries."

Tourism

  • Fjordway.  "The fjords were curved out in a succession of Ice Ages. When the ice retreated 10-12,000 years ago, plants soon established themselves, animals thrived and hunters followed. When they cast out a hook and line in the fjords and lakes, they caught all the fish they could carry. Even today, anglers are almost assured a catch. Or just open your eyes and savour the beauty all around you."

  • Norway.org.  "Fjord Norway was put at the top of the list in National Geographic Traveler Magazine's survey of the 115 greatest unspoiled travel spots in the world. The panel who made the selection were experts in ecology, geography, urban and regional development, travel writing and photography, heritage conservation, archaeology and sustainable tourism.

8/31/2004 National Geographic Traveler Magazine is one of the world's most highly regarded travel magazines. The panel who made the selection was handpicked from among 200 seasoned travellers.

The experts were asked to evaluate places they knew personally, using six criteria to assess the destinations. The criteria were: ecological and environmental quality, social and cultural integrity, the quality of historical buildings and archaeological sites, aesthetic attractiveness, quality in tourism management and future prospects.

'Our vision is to position Fjord Norway as Europe's most attractive destination for nature and adventure holidays, and this accolade is an important confirmation that we are on the right track,' says Fjord Norge AS/Fjord Norway."
  • Scandinavian Tourist Board for North America.  "Imagine a country where nature is a majestic gift to mankind. Imagine a country enjoying the abundance of nature. Accumulated through thousands of years. You will discover a country, which is enchantingly unique. Natural.

Imagine a country where light and darkness intertwine. Where seasons melt together in colours and crystals. Imagine a country where the thawing snow gives way to blossom. Where sea and mountain unite. Where nature is a precious gift to mankind. Discover a country where nature creates art. Where you are invited to a life-fulfilling experience of diversity.

Friendly, down-to-earth people, unique scenery, summer nights bright as day and delightful snowy winters make Norway a very special country. In summer, there are plenty of attractions and activities to keep you busy - the unspoilt open country of the Smi people in the north and fjords, salmon fishing and festivals in the south."
