Tourism

  • Macedonia.org.  An informational Web site about Macedonia including the arts, cuisine, economy, history, language, politics, religion, and travel.
  • Macedonian Cultural & Information Centre.  "The Macedonian Cultural & Information Centre (MCIC) is a non-governmental organisation with the main idea of promoting Macedonian culture and art by means of informing, advertising, publishing, translating, and organising cultural events, exhibitions, lectures and seminars."
  • Monastery Tourism in Macedonia.  "Monastery tourism can lure anyone who is after a quiet and enjoyable holiday in a mountain climate. Clean, fresh mountain air, enchanting scenery and eternally blissful serenity are its most obvious benefits. Spiritual enlightenment, food for the soul, and extra knowledge about a place and its cultural history are added advantages of this extraordinary type of tourism.

Tourists, still most of them local, have been spending their summer holidays in the complex of monastery buildings and the mediaeval inn of the St. Joakim of Osogovo monastery near Kriva Palanka in Eastern Macedonia, a real Mecca for "holy tourism". The inn is very nicely furnished and prices are extremely decent (150-200 denar* per night, equal to USD$ 3). There is a total of 100 beds and a modern, equipped kitchen where food can be prepared with no extra cost for all the utilities and kitchen appliances. The complex is nearly always fully booked, so timely reservation is highly recommended.

The monastery is most visited in the summer, especially in August because of the Saint’s Day on 29th August. Due to the increasing number of guests in the past few years, the monastery management are planning to build another new and more modern inn with more luxurious apartments. Cultural events (e.g. concerts and recitals, literary readings, exhibitions, etc.) have taken place here, and are expected to become more frequent.

In the immediate vicinity of the monastery (about a kilometre away), there is a "B"-class motel, Macedonia, with full hotel services. A solid asphalt road links the monastery with the town of Kriva Palanka. The monastery also offers its own chauffer-driven vehicle to its guests in case they need transportation to the town, or for a panoramic drive around the monastery’s surroundings and the beautiful scenery."
