Tourism

  • Guatemala Tourism.  "Occupying the northernmost position in Central America, Guatemala offers one of the most exciting natural history destinations in the Americas. Consider this: a wildly varied land of virgin jungles, intermingled with beautiful lakes, rivers and volcanoes; caves, valleys and ravines; mountains and plateaus.

Within its ecosystems are myriad species of flora and fauna, changing with a graduated climate whose average temperature is 68 °F.

For the visitor, it is important to note that many of the country's most beautiful and interesting natural regions are sites of enormous archeological importance, monuments of colonial architecture, and centers of traditional Indian culture. Such touristic assets add up to an unquestionably fascinating travel destination."
  • INGUAT- Instuto Guatemalteco de Turismo.  "Traditions, color, crafts and Maya relics are framed by the natural landscapes of my country, where living culture is a testament to a Maya past, the pride of everyone in Guatemala and Central America. Guatemala is blessed by a mild climate where extremes of hot and cold are virtually non-existent, the reason why it is known as the Land of Eternal Spring.

My Guatemala is an unsurpassable, unprecedented land that unites living culture, archaeology, Maya and Spanish Colonial heritage, modern buildings, nature, Caribbean warmth and Pacific beaches. Added to this beauty are Guatemala's people, friendly and hospitable by tradition. For all these reasons, I invite you to visit this country, which is your country, too...

...While most of us have heard about ecotourism, few people have a clear understanding of what it actually is. As the name implies, ecotourism is tourism in a natural setting, but it has two other fundamental components: educating visitors about the natural history of the site being visited, and helping to preserve the site for future generations by using tourism revenue to assist local communities and for conservation projects.

One of Guatemala's premier ecotourism groups is EcoMaya, a tour company with an office in Flores, Petén. Working with nine communities in the Maya Biosphere Reserve and in conjunction with local and international conservation groups, EcoMaya has developed three excellent ecotours, all employing members of the communities as guides and directly benefiting local families."
